Unbiased Info from CMS on Medicare Coverage Options is No Longer a Given

It is no longer a given that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will issue neutral, unbiased information about beneficiaries’ traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage options. In a recent article, Medicare & You 2020 ~ Better than Draft, But Room for Improvement, our partners at Center for Medicare Advocacy lay out in detail some of the ways CMS has distorted information and facts about Medicare Advantage plans to purposely steer people into these plans and away from Original Medicare. While this year’s final 2020 Medicare & You handbook is improved from the draft and improved from last year’s 2019 version, beneficiaries and advocates should remain vigilant regarding such information as the Open Enrollment season rolls out.
