Along with 80,000 other pensioners who bought long-term care insurance through CalPERS, I have struggled to decide whether to keep my coverage or accept the proposed 80% refund being offered to settle the current class action lawsuit. Trying to gather sufficient information and make a rational decision has been exasperating; frankly, I find CalPERS’ conduct in this whole matter reprehensible. I had the fortune to speak with Bonnie Burns at California Health Advocates on two occasions, letting her know my concerns and my viewpoint. Speaking with Bonnie, gaining her knowledge and insight, has helped clarify matters and whatever decision I end up making I will be in a better, less stressed frame of mind going forward.
