CHA Seeks Board Nominations ~ Next 3-Year Term Starts July 1, 2020

California Health Advocates (CHA) seeks new board members for new three year term beginning July 1, 2020.  Nominations are due by March 31, 2020.

MISSION & PURPOSE:

California Health Advocates (CHA) provides quality Medicare and related healthcare coverage information, education, and policy advocacy.

CHA also promotes the work of the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Programs (HICAP) and other organizations that serve California’s 5.6 million Medicare beneficiaries of all ages.

CHA does this through providing statewide technical training and support to local HICAP offices, social and legal services agencies and other professionals who help Californians with questions about Medicare.  CHA also engages in broad based advocacy on behalf of the California Medicare population.  Go to www.cahealthadvocate.org for more information.

REQUIREMENTS:

Of greatest importance is the candidate’s interest in the work of CHA, commitment to its objectives, intelligence, respect in the community, capacity for growth as a board member, capacity to influence favorable public opinion in important areas of the community, ability to work in concert with others, and willingness to ask questions, offer criticism and make suggestions through proper channels.  In addition, ability to assist in fund-raising activities or have connections to potential donors is highly desirable.

  • Participation in Board committees or sub-committees is highly recommended, and availability to be appointed to a specific board position (e.g. secretary, treasurer, etc.) when needed, is also highly desirable.
  • In-person attendance at Board meetings is expected.  Currently, the CHA Board meets four (4) times per year, currently twice a year in person, and twice via conference calls.  In-person meetings take place in Northern California and in Southern California, on dates set a year in advance.  Agendas and locations are provided usually within two weeks of meeting.  Travel reimbursement requests are considered, however, it is appreciated if members consider these costs as part of their contribution to the organization.
