Paula joined our CHA staff with the California Senior Medicare Patrol project in summer of 2013. She has served as a volunteer counselor with the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program and became an SMP Liaison for Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Plumas and Tehama Counties in 2011. She started serving in this field after becoming her father’s caregiver. She realized just how challenging the health care system is to navigate and desired to make a difference for other Medicare beneficiaries.
After graduating from Cal State San Bernardino with a Bachelors degree in Humanities, Paula worked for 30 years in the public sector, specifically in retail management with Target and Office Depot. She also worked in consumer finance, including with HSBC and Edward Jones.
A native Californian from the Inland Empire, Paula currently lives in Butte County with her husband and 3 cattle dogs on 100 acres. They raise pure-bred Angus cattle as a “fun” side gig, grow fruit trees and, in her spare time, Paula enjoys making jams and home-grown/made tomato sauces. She also loves going to the beach to relax (as there are no cows there!)
